The ladies and the men's pairs are played today. I am playing pairs with Peggy Van Ballaert again. :) It clicks.
We had a bye in the first round and were supposed to play 2 Belgian women, but they were scratched. We were scheduled to play on board 39 at 13:10H. Me and the marker were there at 12:50H and Peggy came to the board a little after one. Our two opponents however passed by several times, but made no move whatsoever to come to the board to play. Now, I might have been that nice in the past to go over to them and kindly request them to play, but those days are over. Either you show up on time or you don't and you take the consequences.
Both of them were hanging around at board 36. Now... There is a distinct difference between a 9 and a 6, is there not? We waited the mandatory 5 minutes and then I went back to the control desk. In the meantime they had sauntered over. Tough. Too late. In any case we wouldn't have had to play them even if they had been on time as one of them wasn't dressed as per dress code plus she was not the person on the sheet. But then, yeah, we're the bitches and we feel better than everyone else and bla-di-bla.
Anyways, through to the next round. We played against the Dutch pair Danielle Ijpelaar and Sharon Roosen. Unfortunately we lost 3-0. :( So, last 16 was the end of the line for us.
Ladies pairs winners were Lorraine Winstanley/ Anastasia Dobromyslova and the runners-up were Zoe Jones/ Trina Gulliver.
Men's pairs winners were Joppe Bakens/ Jermaine Wattimena (NL) who beat Martin Philips/ Tony Martin in the final.
