Antwerp Open 2019

This past Saturday the Antwerp Open took place in the old Royal Yacht Club in Antwerp.

My first game wasn't until 1400, but I got there around 0930 so I could at least park my car at a decent distance from the venue :)

There was a long queue outside when I got there of people all waiting to get their player's card. There were only 3 people handing out the cards. Not enough in my opinion and would've been easier if they had put the cards in binders, separated by alphabet cards. Like they do at the Dutch Open and a few other tournaments. Makes it easier to locate someone's card.

Anyway.... A few top players weren't there this year. Jim Williams only just got back from Australia, Scott Mitchell and Lisa Ashton are still Down-Under and Scott Waites and Dean Reynolds participated in the Challenge Tours. Still, plenty of other players were there.

I played my first game at 1400 on board 33 against Linda Ooyen.. Got a bit frustrated by the marker, but won 3-0. In all fairness, the lady did show up to mark which couldn't be said of everyone. It's just very distracting having to tell the marker what you scored, what you have left...

Next game was at 1530 against Sarah Walden and I won this 3-1. Nearly let her come to 2-2 because of way too many missed doubles, but managed to pull through in the end.

Quick smoke, drink and back on at 1600 against Jo Clements. This I won 3-1 as well. Played well, but Jo missed doubles. I took them. Would've been a different game had it gone to 2-2. Again I just had time for a quick smoke, drink and wee and back on at 1630 against Astrid Trouwborst. This game proved to be more difficult than the rest. We played best of 7 at that stage and I was tired and it was too hot. But, no excuse for why I lost. I managed to win 2 legs that game, but Astrid played way better than me and deserved the win. She also went on to win the tournament, beating Sharon Prins in the final.

I am happy with the way I played throughout the day. Apart from those few horrible legs that is. Happy with my 5th place.

Kathy Geeraerts vs Linda Ooyen 3-0

Kathy Geeraerts vs Sarah Walden 3-1

Jo Clements vs Kathy Geeraerts 1-3

Kathy Geeraerts vs Astrid Trouwborst 2-4

Went home, jumped in the shower, had a quick bite to eat and went to another small ranking tournament. :)

(Me? Addicted? Naaah)

Won the final in my group there as well. Was on fire :D
