Saturday the pairs were played. Mixed pairs in the morning and Ladies and en's pairs in the afternoon.
Lovely, sunny weather in Antwerp after the heavy shower in the morning, but that also resulted in tropical temperatures inside the venue because the roof has several skylights. :s
I played mixed pairs with Christophe "Krikke" Snyders (B). Our first game was at 10:00H against Luc and Jodie Steenhuyzen (B); father and daughter. We played well in the first to legs and were up 2-0 fairly easily, but then it all kinda spiraled downwards. We did manage to win 3-1 though.
Next we played Caitlin Stavast/ Peter Marissen (NL). We won that one by the skin of our teeth; 3-2.
In the last 32 we played Berit Schouw/ Lars Helsinghof Andersen (DK). It all went from bad to worse and we lost 3-1. We did have a few chances though, but it just didn't happen. Plus, it was way too hot on that board which was located right underneath one of those skylights. (Poor excuse, I know)
So, joint 17th place.
The mixed pairs was won by James Wilson/ Rachel Brooks (UK) who beat Scott Waites/ Anca Zijlstra (UK/NL) in the final.
In the afternoon I played pairs with Peggy Van Ballaert. We had a bye in the first round and it was bye-bye in the second round. We came up against Zoe Jones/ Trina Gulliver (UK) and well... They won 3-1. We did get chances to make it 2-2, but unfortunately didn't use them.
The ladies pairs was won by Zoe Jones/ Trina Gulliver; beating Fallon Sherrock/ Casey Gallagher (UK) in the final.
Men's pairs was won by Kim & Ronny Huybrechts (B) beating Madars Razma/ Darius Labanauskas in the final.
