Sorry it took so long folks, but was out of the country for 2 weeks and haven't been online. :)
The 2nd Catalonia Open was played on September 7th in the same venue as the Catalunyan Open this year; La Fabrica in Calella, Spain.
We had two groups in the ladies singles event. I was in group 2.
Had a bye in the first round so I marked a game in the first round. :) All part of the game.
I first played Montse Boronat (CAT). I won 3-0. I then played Els Verpoorten, another Belgian girl. Tougher game than the first one, but I won 3-2. Phew.
I played the semis against Anneke Kuijten (NL) and won 3-1. Very happy about that as I did have a title to defend after all.
The final however didn't go as planned. I played Sharon Prins (NL) and unfortunately lost 4-2. It was a very good final though. I hit a 14D and missed 152 to go 3-2 up. Would've been a different game if I had checked it. Ah well.... All in all I'm happy with my game.
The men's singles winner was Ulf Ceder (Finland) and the runner-up was Dimitri van den Bergh (Belgium).
I will definitely be back again next year though. Always a nice tournament.
