The Granite City Open 2013 took place in lovely Aberdeen, Scotland.
With on Friday the mixed pairs, Saturday the singles and Sunday the pairs and youth tournaments.
I "found" my mix partner last week on the Granite City Open Facebook page actually. His name is Keith Robertson and he's from Aberdeen.
We were introduced to each other by Elaine Kearns on the Friday night.
We made it to the last 16 of the mixed pairs. :D Not too shabby for 2 complete strangers playing pairs. Though, we won our games by the skin of our teeth. 3-2 every time. :D
We had a bye in the first round.
Alan Small/ Gillian Hepplewhite vs Keith Robertson/ Kathy Geeraerts 2-3
Andrew Low/ Alison Hay vs Keith Robertson/ Kathy Geeraerts 2-3
Ryan Hogarth/ Michelle Cruickshanks vs Keith Robertson/ Kathy Geeraerts 2-3
Keith Robertson/ Kathy Geeraerts vs Alan Norris/ Deta Hedman 0-3
Both of us usually play a lot better though, so next year... We'll be kicking some serious ass there.
Keith is a talented young man (cute too) who should really consider taking his darts outside of Scotland if you ask me, but that's just my humble opinion and of course; his own choice to make.
The mixed pairs were won by Steve Douglas and Lorraine Farlam. Runners-up were Alan Norris and Deta Hedman.
On Saturday the singles were played. I was in Group 8 and I must say my best game was against Trina Gulliver. Was a bit distracted all day and there seemed to be a disconnection between my head and my arm :D
Kathy Geeraerts vs Catherine Clyde 4-2
Kathy Geeraerts vs Gillian Hepplewhite 4-1
Kathy Geeraerts vs Trina Gulliver 1-4
I'm quite happy with my game against Trina. I played really well, but Trina of course played better :D Did manage to take 1 leg and also got in two 180's, one 177, several 100+ etc. So, all in all... Good game. So, last 32 and only 14 points.
Ladies Singles
Winner: Deta Hedman
Runner-up: Lorraine Farlam
Men's Singles
Winner: Gary Robson
Runner-up: Andy Boulton
On Sunday the pairs and Youth games were played. I played pairs with Betty Rodgers; a former Scottish International. Really sweet lady. Unfortunately we lost first round to Lynn and Caroline Shearer. We were 2-0 up and then it just all went to pieces and we lost 3-2. :( Just couldn't get my darts in straight.
Ladies Pairs
Winners: Deta Hedman/ Fallon Sherrock (Fallon checked out 157 for the match) :)
Runners-up: Lynn Cowan/ Angie de Ward
Men's Pairs
Winners: Ross Montgomery/ Robbie Green
Runners-up: Gary Robson/ Derek Cunningham
Met some really nice people this weekend and enjoyed myself :) Looking forward to going back next year.
