This past weekend a new torunament took place in Venray, The Netherlands. This tournament is the replacement of the Mariflex Open.
To begin with; the venue was very nice. Plenty of space and the temperature was okay too. Organization was good as well.
On Saturday it started with the mixed pairs; followed by the ladies' and men's pairs in the afternoon.
I played mixed pairs with Fred Burger. We'd never paired up before, but I think it went reasonably well. Always room for improvement on my part, but I'd only slept 3 hours the night before. :s Thus, my own fault.
We played our first game against Dennis Brienen/ Patricia Kaaijk and won 3-1. We gave away 1 leg because of double-trouble. We should've won our second game as well, but double trouble again and I missed 40 for the match. I hit double 1 and then double 7 instead of double 19 and my brain was so befuddled that it took me too long to figure out I had double 12 left and then I pulled the dart down and nearly hit treble 12. :s Dennis finished 25 and so we lost 3-2 against Dennis Vennik/ Joyce Schuurman.
The mixed pairs winners are Martin Atkins/ Rachel Brooks and the runners-up are Robbie Green/ Deta Hedman.
In the afternoon we played the ladies' pairs. I paired up with Gabrielle for the first time. We played and won our first game against Hildegard Florichs/ Martina Füllbeck. 3-0. Annoying pair I must say. Walking straight at you when coming back from the board. One of them anyway, but I think she figured out that didn't work with me as I just waited until she was behind the oche before I stepped up. :)
We lost our next round against Deta Hedman/ Anca Zijlstra. 3-1. Not the best game from any of us is all I can say.
The Ladies' Pairs winners are Rebecca Rose/ Casey Gallagher and the runners-up are Zoe Jones/ Anneke Kuijten.
The Men's Pairs winners are Robbie Green/ Jan Dekker and the runners-up are Marco Pol/ Jeffrey van de Ven.
Mental note to self: get plenty of sleep next time. :)
