And off to Germany I went after half a day at work. Only a 2,5 hour drive so not so bad. :)
I booked a hotel (well, Gasthof) not too far from the actual venue. Now I've been to a lot of places and stayed in a lot of different hotels, but this takes the prize for "weirdest set-up ever" up to now. :)
The place is actually a fairly big house which has been converted into a hotel. It has 3 floors and on each floor there are 6 rooms with a shared bathroom per 3 rooms. I was in room 7 on the top floor and imagine my surprise when the guy opened the door to the room and there was a shower IN the room.
His explanation? "This used to be the kitchen and since the water pipes where here anyway we decided to install a shower" Euhm... Right... So happy I am not sharing a room this weekend. :s
You'd think I'd be happy with my own private shower, wouldn't you? Well.... Maybe if I had hot water I would be. As it turns out; I didn't, so I still had to use the shower in the shared bathroom where the water was scalding hot. :D
I went to the venue Friday night to check it out. Warming-up pairs were going on. Not that many pairs present though. The venue was in Dorf Münsterland. Nice enough place. The venue was pretty big, but actually quite boring. No music and thus basically the most quiet venue I have ever been to.
Went back to the hotel afterwards and when I went to the shared bathroom... The doorknob came off when I wanted to close the door. :-\ Go figure. Fixed it again though and with some "skill" managed to close and lock the door.
