On Friday, January 24th I was off to Bucharest for the 1st Romanian Classic Open tournament which was held at the Intercontinental Hotel.
My plane was supposed to leave at 18:35H, but eventually departed with a one hour and five minute delay. It happens....
We touched down at Otopeni - Henri Coanda airport where we were welcomed by a strong gust of wind and icy sleet blowing in our faces when we exited the plane. :s Imagine iron steps and an iron railing; both completly covered in ice. Tricky to get down those steps and into the waiting bus without falling on your ass, but we managed. Phew... Couldn't see a thing through the windows of the bus as they appeared to be of matted glass, but were actually covered in that icy sleet coming down. Lovely weather...
Managed to get a taxi and with some skidding on the roads he dropped me off at the hotel in one piece. Getting out of the taxi I was nearly blown away by a strong gust of wind and welcomed by some more sleet.
Up in my room on the 15th floor opening the balcony door to have a cigarette was not a good idea btw :D
Saturday the singles started with a little delay due to the snow. I noticed that when I looked out the window... We had a little snow....And just to give you an idea of the weather.... Blowing snow. Wind speed: 45 km/h. Temperature: -6 (feel > -17)
Last 32: bye
Last 16: Kathy Geeraerts vs Andreea Constantinescu 4-2
Last 8: Kathy Geeraerts vs Kunka Ivanova 3-4
My scoring was more than okay, but oh, my doubles. Too many damn missed darts at the doubles. I already struggled against Andreea, but managed to hit 4 doubles. Against Kunka... Well... Missed 153 on double 18 to win 4-2 and then missed another 9 darts at double 9. Should I have split the 18? Probably. :(
In the deciding leg I left myself on 14 after hitting two consecutive 140's after a really shitty start to that leg. Too late 'cause she checked out 61. (19-D10-D11)
Very disappointed and frustrated with myself because I again lost a game because of too many missed darts at doubles. My own fault really as I seemed to have the attention span of a gnat and I think too much. :-[
The Ladies' single was won by Amanda Abbott (UK). Runner-up: Anelia Eneva (Bulgaria)
Men's single was won by Scott Mitchell (UK). Runner-up: Eddie White (UK)
Did manage to pick up some points in the process, but not as many as I'd hoped. In 23rd position now. Definitely need to do better next weekend at the Dutch Open.
My flight did leave on Sunday with only an hour's delay. Worried a little as there was a code red in 7 districts and a lot of flights had been cancelled on the Saturday.
