Welsh Open 2013

Went to the Welsh Open 2013 this past weekend.

Just for the singles. We drove to Calais Saturday morning and got on the Eurotunnel Shuttle. Approximately half an hour later we arrived in Folkstone and from there it was a fairly long drive to Rhyl.

We arrived at "Ocean View" a little before 17:00H. Nice little apartment with an ocean view just like the name says. :D

Friendly land lady. Only "down" side was that the electricity was metered which meant putting in a pound to get warm water for the shower and for the heating etc.

Sunday morning we went to the venue. Pontin's in Prestatyn. It was good to see Bev Martin again. Hadn't seen her in ages. She was looking really well. Hope to see her a little more often. Also great to see Dave Smith again.

Anyway, the ladies' singles started a little later than foreseen, but all in all they handled it pretty well. My first game was supposed to start at 14:20H, but started about half an hour to 40 minutes later I think. I played on board 51 against Rita Carus (Wales). Played a very good game for the first time in months and won 3-0. Next game I played Nikki O'Connor. Young girl from the Isle of Man. Played another good game the first 2 legs and then I don't know what happened. I hit a 180 in the game somewhere. Believe me it was necessary 'cause I was a bit behind. It went 2-2, but I managed to win 3-2. I had 5 left. First dart went outside the board, 2nd dart I hit treble 1 and finished double 1. Phew.....

3rd round (last 64) I came up against Zoe Jones. Lost 3-0. Had one chance to take a leg, but busted 93.

Anyway... I did score some points. Not much, but better than no points. I was happy with my games. Well, for the most part anyway. Played better than I have in months so...

Ladies' singles were won by Aileen De Graaf (NL). Runner-up was Julie Gore. 5-1

Men's singles were won by Stephen Bunting who won the final against Robbie Green with 6-5.

Geert De Vos lost in the last 32 against Robbie Green. (3-4)
